EUROPE: Sylvan Esso are heading back out on tour, starting in Dresden tomorrow and finishing up in awesome Glasgow (in a newly independent Scotland?! only time will tell!!) on 9 October.
17.09. Dresden DE – Altes Wettbüro
In late May and early June, Alexi Murdoch will be in Iceland and the United Kingdom, participating in a series of non-traditional events and a rare London solo performance! All dates and links right here, with further details after the jump - don't miss out!
24.05 Reykjavik, Iceland - Tjarnarbíó (Reykjavik Arts Festival)
11.06 Cornwall, England - Bedruthan Steps (Blue Mind Conference)
14.06 London, England - St Stephen’s Church (Bushstock Festival)
In Iceland, Alexi has been collaborating on a music theater piece the past few weeks. The performance, titled Wide Slumber, weaves together visuals crafted by VaVaVoom Theatre with live music by Bedroom Community founder Valgeir Sigurðsson, a composer & engineer/producer of albums by Feist, Björk, Damon Albarn, Nico Muhly, Hilary Hahn, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and many others. It was inspired by Wide Slumber for Lepidopterists, a book by the Reykjavik based Canadian poet a. rawlings which pairs the stages of sleep with the life cycle of butterflies and moths.
Next, Alexi will visit the United Kingdom. First, he will participate in an interdisciplinary conference assembled by Dr. Wallace J Nichols. "Blue Mind" — which is the title of Nichols new book and the conference — was partially inspired by Alexi's song of the same name. Alexi will speak at this invitation-only event about the connections between environment, water resources, and the human mind. It will be live streamed at www.bluemind.me <http://www.bluemind.me>
A few days later, Alexi will perform solo at St. Stephan's Church as part of Communion Music's Bushstock Festival. (This will be his first UK performance since his sold out Union Chapel show in 2011.) Alexi is donating all of his artist fees for this show to the Marine Conservation Society, a UK charity devoted to protecting seas, shores & wildlife.
Coincidentally, on June 9, Alexi's song "All My Days" will appear prominently in the final episode of the new television series "Years of Living Dangerously," a 9-part science documentary which uses the power of celebrity to draw attention to climate change. Executive produced by James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub and Arnold Schwarznegger, it includes appearances by Harrison Ford, America Ferrera, Matt Damon, Jessica Alba, Don Cheadle and Olivia Munn alongside journalists, scientists, politicians and evangelical religious groups trying to inspire societal changes that will help address this important issue. It debuted on the American cable channel Showtime, but should be available in other countries quite soon.
As to general news, in the winter of 2014, Alexi moved temporarily to Montreal where he began work on a new recording project. Stand by for more about that in the coming months...
